Over the past few years, I have photographed towns across Sicily while trying to understand an island that continually resists any single image of itself.
These photographs have now become Sicily, in Fragments, a new and ongoing project within the Records section of Hylonicum. The first ten sequences bring together places encountered at different times and under different conditions. Each town appears as a partial configuration of landscape, architecture, memory, ordinary life and historical form.
The collection is arranged alphabetically – it offers neither an itinerary nor a hierarchy, and it does not attempt to assemble its fragments into a final, coherent portrait of Sicily.
New places will be added as the project develops.
